Hands On Learning and the Florida Arts

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Everyone can make the choice to spend an afternoon in a museum or an art gallery so that they can see other artisans’ work. Some people will choose to take it a few steps further and to sit in on lectures or even to take classes to learn more about fine art.

Experiencing the Florida arts, however, shouldn’t just be something that it done from a distance. When you live on Florida’s First Coast, you’ll find that there are a number of opportunities available to you.

For example, you’ll find that there are arts and crafts courses that allow you to learn more about painting, sketching and drawing, working with clay and more. Some of these classes you’ll have to pay for; others are offered at no cost.

For example, the Art Photo Studio offers courses like the upcoming “Happy Holiday Family Smiles – Homestyle” Free Photography Class where those who attend can learn to do more than just take holiday snapshots, where everyday people can learn to shoot like a pro.

Hands on classes like these give you a chance to get involved in the Florida art community and learn skills that you can really use as time goes on.

Connect with the Florida Arts

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

When most people think about Florida, they consider the tourist-destination theme parks, the crystal blue waters of the Gulf Coast beaches, the night life of Miami or the relaxed coastal living that the state has to offer.

In a way, this is a shame: it leaves a whole world left undiscovered - the world of the Florida arts.

Within Jacksonville alone, one can find a wide variety of works created in a wide range of mediums:

  • The Florida arts community is home to sculpture made of bronze, steel, copper and iron.
  • Paintings of the American West are on display.
  • Photography galleries and exhibits are waiting to be discovered.
  • Glasswork and other artisan crafts are not only displayed but also are taught in a range of settings.

Connecting with the Florida Arts can be as simple as visiting a gallery or a museum, but can also be as intensely personal as taking a class or a workshop and learning a skill of your own.

Wilbur By The Sea & Ponce Inlet - Old Florida Finds It’s Artsy New Future

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

WIlbur By The SeaAs a native Floridian, I’ve seen a lot of changes to the coastal landscape of Florida in my life time. As an artist, it seems I am constantly seeking out the Florida of my youth; small beach side towns where kids lug surfboards around, the river is never more than two blocks away from the ocean and warm, southeast breezes constantly blow.
