Jacksonville Beach: A Great Place to Live for Those Who Fish
(source)Founders of the Florida Pier Anglers Association thought they had a nibble when they formed the group two years ago. Since then, the organization has turned into a big catch. The club was established in 2006, mainly for anglers who fish off the Jacksonville Beach Pier on Fourth Avenue North. Initially, it represented a small band of fishermen who wanted to educate people about fishing and stewardship of the pier.
Now, it has grown to dozens of members and may expand with new chapters around the state.
The association started in reaction to several issues surrounding the pier, such as fishing rules and run-ins with surfers. It has about 40 members and has added club events.
One coming up soon is the third annual Florida Pier Anglers Association Charity Kingfish Tournament. Registration ends Tuesday for the tournament, which begins Thursday and runs through Sept. 30. It focuses on the Atlantic Ocean from the Florida-Georgia state line south to the Flagler Beach Pier. Proceeds go to childrens’ charities.
If fishing is your passion, there are few places better than Jacksonville Beach - or one of Florida’s other First Coast communities - to call home. Not only are there plenty of tournaments that you can get involved in, but there are also a variety of ways in which you an get involved and make a difference in your community - while doing something that you would be doing anyway.
