Living in Jacksonville, Florida, Gives You a Chance to Give Back to Your Community
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008One of the absolute greatest things that someone can do - whether they live in Jacksonville or anywhere else around the country - is to make an effort to give back.
(source)On the days that the mouth-watering carrot cake, cherry turnovers and black and white cookies don’t sell at Worman’s Bakery and Deli in downtown Jacksonville, they’re donated to the hungry.
“As a people, we’re very wasteful,” says the owner Pearl Leibowitz.
Now, 43,000 restaurants and food places in Florida can follow Worman’s lead and donate all food — baked or perishable — to charitable organizations.
Gov. Charlie Crist signed House Bill 276 that removes legal restraints from restaurants and other establishments on donating perishable food to nonprofit organizations that intend to distribute it to the needy.
Living in Jacksonville, Florida, gives you access to a wide variety of opportunities. You’ll have the chance to fish, to boat, to explore museums and to enjoy sports and more; but most of all, thanks to this change in the Florida law, those who live in Florida have a new way of giving back to others.
Even when you go out and enjoy a meal out, you’ll find that you are able to feel better about the experience. No, you leftovers won’t be sent off to others, but the extra food that was prepared and unused can be donated - and that’s great for those who are less fortunate than you are.
