Explore the Florida Arts at Jacksonville’s Museum of Contemporary Art
Where can you go to explore the simplistic and elegant sculpture of Minoru Ohira? Where can you go to see sculpture made primarily of recycled wood by Duncan Johnson? Where can you go to experience the sound-based kinetic sculptures of Martha Whittington?
More than just the home to First Wednesday Art Walks, Jacksonville is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art where you can experience short term exhibits like those by Ohira, Johnson and Whittington, as well as a permanent collection of the arts.
MOCA Jacksonville primarily collects work from 1960 to the present. The Museum’s permanent collection currently consists of almost 800 works of art, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography. MOCA Jacksonville endeavors to create a permanent collection of significant depth, scope, and quality to be used for study, scholarly research, and exhibition – all tools that foster an education, awareness and experience with contemporary visual art.
No matter what interests you about the Florida Arts, you’ll find that there is plenty to capture your attention at Jacksonville’s Museum of Contemporary Art - but then, that might mean leaving the work of Florida art that is your Jacksonville loft.
